Troubleshooting
Use the table below to troubleshoot any problems you encounter during installation or operation of the
MA-428 LAN Bridge.
Table 29. Troubleshooting Problems and Solutions for the MA-428 LAN Bridge
Problem Possible Solution
Check that both the module adapter and device are set to auto-negotiation
mode.
Auto-negotiation mode
is not working
Check that the module adapter and the device are connected with a straight or
cross cable.
Check that the module adapter and the device are connected with a cross
cable. Forced mode does not work with a straight cable connection.
Check that the module adapter and the device are set to Forced mode.
Disable and enable the LAN port on the device.
Restart the device.
Try connecting to another device.
Forced mode is not
working
Re-configure the computer and the module adapter and then re-start the
m
odul
e adapter.
Check that the cable is connected correctly.
Check that the module adapter and the device are in the correct modes, see the
following table.
Restart the device and the module adapter.
Link light is blinking
continuously
Try connecting the module adapter to a different device.
Data loss due to
unmatched mode
Check that both the module adapter and the computer are in the same mode
(auto-negot
iation or forced.) Valid link is the preferred mode combination.
See the following table.
Some Ethernet frames
do not pass
Check that the APST switch is off. When it is on, Ethernet frames with length
field zero do not pass.
Some application layer
protocols do not work
Check that the DBS (disable broadcast frame) switch is off. When it is on ,
appli
cation layer protocols such as remote desktop connection and IP
messenger do not work.
The TEST light does
not blink
Either the Multi-point control unit (MCU) on the is not programmed or the
board is faulty. (The rapidity of blinking varies with the mode of operation.)
Note: Pad bytes are stripped if the length field in the frame is less than the minimum frame size.
The following table gives all the possible auto-negotiation/forced mode combinations. Valid link is
the preferred mode combination. Modes such as unstable link, no link and false link are not preferred,
even though there appears to be a link.
