RFL Electronics IMUX Ap-Note 14.
CHART RESET.
Chart Reset command is available from the same "hidden menu group" of
the front-panel controls as Factory Reset.
Chart Reset pertains only
to Channel Modules (DS0-level) configuration. The
Common Module maintains a "Chart", listing individual Channel Modules in
the shelf and their configuration.
In an IMUX shelf, all Channel Module control is performed by the Drop-and-
Insert A (or Terminal). Issuing Chart Reset command to Drop-and-Insert B
is meaningless.
Chart Reset will delete all
information about Channel Modules: that is, about
their existence and about their configuration.
Following a Chart Reset, the Common Module will immediately find again all
"smart" (programmable) Channel Modules in the shelf.
This is a very critical instant: since the configuration information is lost,
certain modules under remote control will be now in un-programmed state,
with possibly undesired effects. These modules must either be removed or
reprogrammed immediately.
Obviously, “dumb" channel modules (not programmable) or "smart"
(programmable) Channel Modules operating under local control (not relying
on Common Module for configuration) will not be affected.
Typically, Chart Reset will be used to clear a Common Module of information
it collected about channel modules elsewhere. This again may be the case in
service situation, where a spare Common Module may have been previously
used in another shelf.
Such module will attempt to program Channel Modules in the present shelf
with the configuration of the previous one, possibly resulting in disruption
or misoperation of individual channels.
Please refer to Application Note 15 (IMUX Module Configuration Storage)
for detailed information on principles of local/remote programming of
channel modules.
