R.9.35
Date Code 20111215 Reference Manual SEL-421 Relay
ASCII Command Reference
Description of Commands
PACCESS
Use the PACCESS command to gain access to Access Level P (protection).
See Access Levels on page U.4.6 for more information.
PASSWORD
Use the PASSWORD command to control password protection for relay
access levels. For information on access levels and passwords, see Changing
the Default Passwords on page U.4.6.
PAS level new_password
This device is shipped with default
passwords. Default passwords should
be changed to private passwords at
installation. Failure to change each
default password to a private
password may allow unauthorized
access. SEL shall not be responsible
for any damage resulting from
unauthorized access.
!
WARNING
The relay changes the existing password for the specified access level to a
new_password that you specify when you issue the PAS level new_password
command.
Relay access levels that have passwords are 1, B, P, A, O, and 2. Valid
passwords are character sequences of as many as 12 characters. Valid
characters are any printable ASCII character. HMI password entry is limited
to upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, underscore, and period, so you must
limit your password to these characters if you need to do privileged operations
from the front panel.
All passwords are case sensitive. See Changing the Default Passwords on
page U.4.6 for information on setting strong passwords. When you
successfully enter a new password, the relay pulses the Relay Word bit
SALARM for one second, and responds,
Set.
PAS level DISABLE
Issuing the PAS level DISABLE command disables password checking for
the specified access level. You must type DISABLE in upper case.
When you successfully disable password checking, the relay pulses the
SALARM Relay Word bit for one second, and responds,
Password Disabled.
SEL does not recommend disabling passwords (see Changing the Default
Passwords on page U.4.6).
