6. CONVENIENCE FUNCTIONS
ADJUSTMENT OF NEAR-POINT CARD
When the patient wears multi-focal lenses, measure the eyeglass refractive power at near
distance. For installing the near-point rod and near-point card, refer to " ASSEMBLY/INSTAL-
LATION OF NEAR-POINT ROD AND NEAR-POINT CARD" on P.39.
The scale of the near-point rod is metric and measured in CM (15 - 70), yard and measured
INCH (6 - 27), measured DIOP (7 - 1.5).
Values matching both end lines of the card holder indicate the distance between the eye and
the card.
The setting procedure is shown below.
1 Gently pull down the near-point rod until it stops.
When the near-point rod is horizontal, it is in the measuring position.
2 Set the desired target on the near-point card attached to the card holder.
To set the target, turn the rotary part at the bottom of the card using your fingers. The tar-
get appears in the sight window.
Target numbers of the near-point card and the contents are shown below.
(1) 40cm Character target VA20/200-20/60
(2) 67cm Character target VA20/200-20/20
(3) Target of one vertical line
(4) 40cm Character target VA20/20
(5) Target for astigmatism
(6) 40cm Character target VA20/50-20/20
(7) Target for measuring presbyopia (thin lines)
(8) 40cm Character target VA20/20, one horizontal line
(9) Target of one horizontal line
(10) Target for measuring presbyopia
Target name on the patient side
When "Astigmatic chart" is shown on the operators side the patient will see the correct astig-
matic chart, the patient sees the target for astigmatism (astigmatic chart). (The target for astig-
matism (astigmatic chart) is displayed in the sight window at the back side.)
CAUTION
To avoid injury due to contact, do not bring the user’s face close to the
near-point rod.
CAUTION
Do not tilt the instrument downward while the near-point rod is pulled
down. The near-point rod may hit the instrument or desk and damage
the instrument.
NOTICE
The near-point card must be positioned in the correct direction. Do not
bend it incorrectly in any other direction. The near-point card may be
broken.
