PROCEDURE
1 Make sure that the pressure in all pipes is released.
2 Make sure that you know the procedure for the access to engine spaces, refer to the
Operation Manual.
3 Make sure that no personnel and components are in the danger areas (crankcase,
piston underside, propeller shaft, etc.).
4 Prevent the crankshaft from turning.
4.1 Engage the turning gear and make sure that the lever is locked.
4.2 If necessary, do more related work.
NOTE: Water current (for instance if the ship is tugged) can cause the
propeller shaft to turn.
5 Make sure the all related spaces have good airflow, for example if CO
2
was used to
extinguish a fire.
6 If necessary, install the work platforms in the crankcase.
6.1 Install the platform (94143) on the longitudinal beam of the column door and the
crank.
6.2 Install the adjustable platform (94142) at the applicable height on the steps in
the columns.
