8.4.3 Definitions
For the purpose of this document, the following
definitions apply:
Synchronous speed: The speed the machine
will attain when it is driven by a three phase
squirrel-cage induction motor and there is no
slip in the motor and the drive system.
Full speed: The synchronous speed minus
normal slip.
8.4.4 Goal
To eliminate situations that can cause harm,
i.e. injury, damage to health or property and
unsatisfactory process result are e.g.:
Information and instructions given in this
document aim at preventing these situations.
Control and supervision can be more or less
comprehensive depending on the type of used
control equipment. When a simple control unit
is used it would be impossible or too expensive
to include many of the functions specified here
while these functions could be included at
nearly no extra cost when a more advanced
control unit is used. For this reasons functions
that are indispensable or needed for safety
reasons to protect the machine and/or
personnel are denoted with shall while other
functions are denoted with should.
Situation Effect
Unbalance caused by uneven sediment
accumulation in the bowl.
Too high stress on bowl and bearing
system which might cause harm.
Too high bowl speed. Too high stress on bowl which might
cause harm.
Access to moving parts. Can cause injury to person who
accidentally touches these parts.
Insufficient cleaning of separator. Unsatisfactory product quality.
Bowl leakage. Product losses.
