Engine oil dipstick
○
H
: Maximum scale mark of oil level
○
L
: Minimum scale mark of oil level
Engine operation consumes a certain amount of
oil which depends on the driving mode and
vehicle operation conditions. Therefore, the oil
level must be inspected regularly, preferably
after each refueling and before long-distance
travel. If the oil level is below ○
L
, remove the oil
filler cap and add appropriate amount of oil.
If the vehicle travels on the expressway for a
long distance or in the mountains and the engine
is running under such harsh conditions in
summer, the engine oil level must not be above
the MAX scale ○
H
.
Adding engine oil
1. Park the vehicle on the flat and solid ground;
2. Open the engine hood.
3. Place a rag around the filler to prevent oil from
dripping onto the engine;
4. Counterclockwise turn the oil filler cap to open
it;
5. In order to avoid overfilling, add a small
amount of oil each time for several times and
inspect the oil level; (It takes a few minutes for
the oil to flow from the filler to the oil sump.)
6. When the oil level is between MAX scale and
MIN scale, stop adding the oil and screw up the
oil filler cap;
7. Put away the rag and clean portions around
the filler.
Do not start the engine if the oil level is above
the MAX scale. Otherwise, the catalytic
converter and the engine may be damaged. If
too much oil is added, contact the authorized
dealer to remove excess oil.
Engine oil is a highly flammable substance.
Be careful when adding the oil. Do not spill oil
on the engine parts or exhaust system
components that are hot.
Be sure to change the engine oil regularly as
specified in the “First maintenance and
scheduled maintenance item table” in the
chapter “Maintenance” in this manual.
Change the engine oil at the authorized dealer. If
the vehicle is running under severe conditions as
described below:
● Frequent short-distance travel.
● Long-term idling (such as taxis).
● Running in the dusty region.
● Frequent running with a trailer towed.
● Driving in the alpine region.
The number of maintenance of related items
must be increased or the maintenance period
shortened between regular maintenances.
