Special operation
Notes on winter operation
Coolant preheating*
At temperatures below -20°C, switch on the heat-
ing element in the cooling system prior to starting
the engine (clock switch).
1. Connect the socket (1) of the preheating sys-
tem to 230 VAC.
2. Observe the manufacturer's operating manu-
al.
* Optional equipment
Winter diesel
Use winter diesel fuel at temperatures below 0°C.
Motor oil for winter operation
Use motor oils with an appropriate specification.
(see Maintenance Data "Fluids and lubricants",
page 253).
Occasionally exceeding the temperature limits can
impair the cold starting ability of the engine, but
does not lead to engine damage.
Hydraulics
The hydraulic functions are sluggish and run more
slowly under cold conditions. Bring the hydraulics
to operating temperature by operating the hy-
draulic functions.
Window washing system
Use window washing water with anti-freeze at sub-
zero temperatures.
Putting on snow chains
The tyres in the table below can be equipped with
snow chains to improve traction.
