Operation
WARNING

Careshouldbetakentopreventsudden
accelerationswhenbothdrivewheelsareona
slipperysurface.Thiscouldcausebothdrive
wheelstospinandallowthevehicletoslide
sideways,resultinginlossofvehiclecontrol.
TandemAxlePowerDividerLock(PDL)Control
CAUTION
Topreventpropertydamage,donotoperatethe
vehiclewiththePDLengagedondrypavement
(goodtraction)continuously.Thiswillresultin
excessivetirewearandprematureaxlewear.
NeverengagethePDLwhenthewheelsare
spinning.
ThePDLshouldbeengaged,whichpreventsinter-axle
differentialaction,whenbackingunderatrailerwithatractor,
orwhenthereispoortraction,suchaswhenstartingona
slipperysurface,operatingoffhighwayinmud,ortraveling
onslipperyhighways.Failuretolockthepowerdividerunder
theseconditionsmayresultinpowerdividerfailuresandcostly
repairs.Ifyouencounterwheelspinconditions,thePDLswitch
shouldbemovedtotheLOCKposition.
CAUTION
Topreventvehicleand/orcomponentdamage,
engagethePDLonlywhenstoppedormovingat
lowspeed.NevertrytoengagethePDLwhilethe
wheelsarespinningasthismayresultinshock
damagetothepowerdividercomponents.
Whenencounteringslipperyhighwayconditions(poortraction),
thePDLcanbeengagedatalow,evenspeed.Momentarily
lettingofftheacceleratorwillengagethedifferentiallock.A
warningindicatorontheinstrumentpanelindicateswhenthe
inter-axledifferentialislocked.
Whenhighwayconditionsimprove(goodtraction),thePDL
shouldbedisengaged,againatalow,evenspeed.Letting
upontheacceleratormomentarilywillunlocktheinter-axle
differential.
Tandemaxlepowerdividersorinter-axledifferentials
intheforwardrearaxlearecontrolledbytheinstrument
panelmountedPowerDividerLock(PDLLOCK)
switch.
TheswitchindicatorwillturnonwhenthePDLis
engaged(locked).Thevehiclemaybeelectronically
programmedtoprovideanalarmwhenaspeedis
reachedwhereitisnotappropriatetohavethepowerdivider
locked.Inthisevent,analarmwillsound(5beeps)andthe
switchindicatorwillashslowly(oncepersecond).Afast
ashing(twicepersecond)switchindicatorsigniesaproblem
inthePDLsystem.
