Recycleordisposeofengineuids,lters,and
othercontaminatedmaterialsaccordingtoapplicable
regulations.
ScheduledMaintenance
Forinformationregardingroutinescheduledmaintenancesuch
asreplacementofoil,lters,coolant,belts,belttensioners,and
inspectionandadjustmentofitemssuchasvalvelash,referto
theEngineOperationandMaintenanceManualsuppliedwiththe
vehicle.
AirInductionSystem
WARNING
Topreventpropertydamage,personalinjury,and
/ordeath,whenperformingmaintenanceand
repairstoanyturbochargedenginewithengine
airinletpipingdisconnected,aturbocharger
compressorairinletprotectiveshieldshouldbe
installedovertheturbochargerairinlet.
Onceeachyearperformacompleteinspectionoftheair
inductionsystem.Inareaswhereroadsaltisused,the
inspectionconsistsofdisassemblingthejointsofeachmetal
componentandinspectingforsaltbuildupthatcancause
particlestoakeoffandentertheenginecombustionchambers.
Ifevidenceofcorrosionisfound(usuallyappearingatthepipe
connections),useawirebrushtocleantheinsideofthepipes
andinsideoftherubberhoses.
Iftheintakepipesarepittedatthejointends,useRTVSilicone
tosealthejoints.Becertainthatnoexcessmaterialthatcanbe
pulledintotheengineisontheinsideofthepipe.Iftheservice
conditionofthepipes,hoses,orclampsisquestionable,replace
thoseparts.
•Checkforloosehosesandclamps.
•Checkforruptured,bulging,orcollapsedhoses.
•Checkaircleanerhousingforcracks.
AirRestrictionGauge
Theairrestrictiongaugeindicateshowmuchengineaircleaner
ltercapacityhasbeenusedandhowmuchltercapacity
remains.Itmeasuresmaximumrestrictionofthelterelement
whentheengineisoperatedatfullloadandlocksatthat
point.Thisfeaturegivestheoperatorthecapabilityofreading
maximumrestrictionwiththeengineshutdown.
Thegaugeismountedontheforwardsideoftheaircleaner
housing,oroptionallyonthecenterinstrumentpanel/wing
panel.
