Why is my Navistar Truck showing a high restriction reading?
    • M
      mcarterAug 2, 2025
A high restriction reading on your Navistar Truck might be due to several reasons. The outer element could be plugged, requiring replacement. If your truck has an inner element, it might also be plugged and need replacing. Check for any obstructions, damage, or incorrect installation in the inlet screens or ducts upstream from the restriction tap. In case of heavy snow or rain, a temporary high restriction might occur, which should disappear after drying. If the gauge locks up at the red zone, inspect the elements for damage, reset the gauge, and recheck the reading after reusing the element.

If your Navistar Truck's gauge isn't showing any restriction reading, there could be a few reasons. First, a fitting or vacuum line might be plugged. Try removing the gauge and applying a vacuum until it's locked at the red zone, then reinsert it and hold the reset button. If the indicator doesn't return fully, the line or fitting is likely plugged. A slow return is normal. Another cause might be a leak in the vacuum line. Apply vacuum to the gauge until it locks at the red zone, reconnect the gauge, and close the line airtight. Hold the reset button; if the indicator drops slightly and doesn't move, the vacuum line is leaking. A leak in the gauge itself could also be the problem; repeat the vacuum test, but close the gauge connection airtight this time. If you have a turbocharged engine, ...
