OptionalInstrumentPanelGaugeClusterCompass
CalibrationProcedure
Allnewvehicleswithanoptionalcompassmusthaveaninitial
compasscalibrationperformed.Acompasscalibrationmayor
maynothavebeencompletedatthevehicleassemblyplant.
Ifthecompassheadingsarenoticeablyincorrect,orbecome
noticeablyincorrect,ortheNOCALmessageisdisplayed,the
DeclinationZonemayneedtoberesettoagreewiththecurrent
geographiclocation,ortheCompassDirectionalCalibrationwill
needtoberecalibrated.
ThecompassdirectionisdisplayedinthelowerleftQuadrant
(quadrant3)oftheinstrumentpanelgaugeclusterdisplay
justbelowtheoutdoortemperaturereading.Textmessages
necessarytocalibratethecompasscanbefoundinthe
instrumentpanelgaugeclusterdisplayinthelowerright
Quadrant(quadrant2)ofthedisplay.Twisttheinstrument
panelgaugeclusterdisplayknobuntilthecursorisashingin
thelowerrightquadrant.Presstheinstrumentpanelgauge
clusterdisplayknobuntilthedesiredtextmessageisdisplayed.
CompassCalibrationrelatedtextmessagesincludeCalibrate
Compass,CompassDeclination,DeclinationZone#,andEnd
Calibration.
NOTE:TheDeclinationZoneforthelocationwherethe
CompassCalibrationprocedureisbeingperformedmustbe
setrst,andthereaftertheCompassDirectionalCalibration
procedurecanbeperformed.Bothproceduresarelisted
onthefollowingpagesandmustbefollowedexactlyto
ensurepropercalibrationofthecompass.
CompassDeclinationZoneSetProcedure
TheDeclinationZonenumberisusedtoaccountforthe
errorsbetweenmagneticNorthandtrueNorthinthevehicle’s
geographicoperatingarea,andmustbesetcorrectlyforthe
compasstodisplayaccurateheadings.
NOTE:Whencalibrating/recalibratingthecompass,you
mustselecttheDeclinationZonethatcorrespondstothe
geographiclocationwherethecompasscalibrationisbeing
performed.ItcanberesetlatertomatchtheDeclination
zonewherethevehiclewillbeoperating.
Forvehiclesthatregularlyoperatecoasttocoastorinseveral
differentDeclinationZones,eitherchooseaDeclinationZonein
thegeographiccenterofthevehicle’soperatingarea,orchange
theDeclinationZonedailytomatchthepresentDeclination
Zone.
TobegintheDeclinationZonesetprocedure,thevehiclemustbe
stoppedwithignitionkeyON.RefertoZoneMapfordetermining
theproperDeclinationZonenumber.
