ApplicableRRDIFForFRDIFFENGAGEindicatormust
beilluminatedininstrumentpanelgaugeclustertovalidate
DIFFLOCKisFULLYengagedandaxleshaftcanbe
removed.FailuretofullyengageaxleDIFFLOCKwill
allowDIFFLOCKshiftcollartofallslightlyandblock,or
temporarilyresist,axleshaftreinsertion.
2.Removecapscrewsandwashersorstudnutsand
washersfromangesofbothaxleshafts.
3.Loosentapereddowelsinangesofbothaxleshafts
byholdinga1-1/2inchdiameterbrassdriftorhammer
againstaxleshaftcenterandhittingitwitha5-to
6-poundhammer.
4.Removetapereddowelsandbothaxleshaftsfromaxle
assembly.
5.Assembleacoveroveropeningsofbothwheelendsto
preventlossoflubricantandkeepdirtfromthewheel
bearingcavities.
InstallingAxleShafts
1.Removecoversfromwheelends.
2.Shiftdifferentiallocktothelocked(engaged)position.
ApplicableRRDIFForFRDIFFENGAGEindicatormust
beilluminatedintheinstrumentpanelgaugeclusterto
validateDIFFLOCKisFULLYengagedandaxleshaftcan
beremoved.FailuretofullyengageaxleDIFFLOCKwill
allowDIFFLOCKshiftcollartofallslightlyandblock,or
temporarilyresist,axleshaftreinsertion.
3.Installright-sideandleft-sideaxleshaftsasfollows:
a.Placegasketsonwheelhubstuds.
b.Pushright-sideaxleshaftintowheelendand
housinguntilshaftstopsagainstdifferentialshift
collar.
c.Pushaxleshaftfurtherintohousinguntilshaftstops
againstdifferentialsidegear.
d.Pushdownonaxleshaftangeandrotateshaftuntil
splinesofshaftandsidegearareengaged.
e.Pushaxleshaftcompletelyintohousinguntilaxle
shaftangeandgasketareushagainstwheelhub.
f.Installleft-sideaxleshaftandgasketintowheelend.
4.Iftapereddowelsarerequired,installthemateachstud
andintoangeofaxleshaft.Useapunchordriftand
hammerifneeded.
5.Installfastenersandtightentocorrecttorquevalue.

TowingVehicleWithRearWheelsSuspended
CAUTION
Topreventdamagetocabrooforairdeector
whentowingthevehiclebackwards(rearwheels
suspended),theairdeectormustberemoved.
Wheneverpossible,itispreferabletotowadisabledvehiclefrom
therearbyraisingtherearofthechassisbytherearaxles.
Whentowingavehiclewithrearofthechassissuspended,the
frontwheelsmustbelockedinthestraightaheadposition.
