CAUTION

uidtemperatureeitheraboveorbelowtheuid
temperaturespecicationlimits.Continued
operationwhentransmissionuidisout
oftemperaturespecicationmayconstitute
contributorynegligenceandresultantdamage
maynotberegardedasawarrantablecondition.
ColdWeather
Oncertainautomaticandautomatedmanualtransmissions,
ifthetransmissionuidtemperatureisbelowacertainpreset
range,theTransmissionControlModule(TCM)maylimit
transmissionoperationuntilthesumptemperaturerisestoallow
thetransmissiontoperformanormalshiftschedule.Certain
transmissionmayhaveapreheatingrequirementtoraise
transmissiontemperaturetoapointwhichthetransmission
maybesafelyoperated.Refertothetransmissionoperators
manualthatcamewiththetruckatinitialpurchaseforproper
proceduresandtemperatureranges.
HighFluidtemperature
Ifthetransmissiongaugesindicatetransmissionoverheating
duringnormaloperation,stoptheengineandverifythat
thetransmissionuidleveliscorrectandthattheengine
temperaturesarewithinnormallimits.Ifthehightransmission
orenginetemperaturespersist,stoptheengineandcontact
yournearestInternationalDealerforfurtherassistance.
ManualTransmissions
VehicleswithamanualorAutoShifttransmissionshaveaclutch
pedalthatisusedtoengageordisengagetheclutch,connecting
ordisconnectingtheenginefromthetransmissionandrear
wheels.Withtheclutchpedalreleased(extended)theclutchis
engaged,drivingthetransmissionandrearwheels.Depressing
theclutchpedalreleasestheclutch,permittingtransmission
gearchanges.
Clutcheswilllastmanythousandsofmilesifproperlyusedand
maintained.EXCESSHEATISACLUTCH’SWORSTENEMY!
Almosteveryearlyclutchfailurecanbetracedtoexcessive
frictionheat.Donotrideorsliptheclutch.Onceaclutchis
fullyengaged,thereisnoheatgeneratedandlittleornowear.
However,duringthebriefperiodwhentheclutchispickingup
theload,considerableheatisgenerated.Byridingorslipping
theclutch,theperiodofpartialengagementislengthened,
causingunnecessaryheatandwearandreducedclutchlife.
