startup,theairpressuregauge/gaugesshouldalsoindicate
atleastonesectionofthesplitsystemhaslowairpressure.
IftheREDindicator,beeperandgaugeindicatealossof
pressurewhiledriving,thevehiclestillhasaportionofthe
brakingcapability,becauseone-halfofthesplitsystembraking
capabilityisretained.However,thedistancerequiredtostop
thevehiclewillbeincreased.
ReservoirMoistureDraining

airdryerautomaticallydrainsthewettank.
Dailydrainingisnotrequired.
Moisturetakeninwiththeairthroughthecompressorinlet
valvescollectsinthereservoirsandnecessitatesdrainingeach
reservoirperiodically.Thisisdonebyopeningthedraincocks
locatedattheendofalltanks(optionalpull-cableoperateddrain
valvesmaybepresent).Ifthedraincockisopenedintheend
ofthetank,theremustbesomeairpressureinthesystemto
ensureproperdrainage.Besuretoclosethedraincocksafter
allmoisturehasbeenexpelled.
Onvehiclessoequipped,thereservoirautomaticdrainvalve
ejectsmoistureandcontaminantsfromthereservoirinwhichit
isconnected.Itoperatesautomaticallyandrequiresnomanual
assistanceorcontrollinesfromothersources.Thereservoir
shouldbedrainedandthevalveshouldbeexaminedperiodically
toensurethatthedrainpassageisnotobstructed.
BrakeApplication
Rapidsuccessivebrakeapplicationsandrelease,sometimes
referredtoasfanningorpumpingthepedal,shouldbeavoided.
Thisisaninefcientwayofslowingorstoppingavehicle
andinefcientuseofairpressure.Italsodefeatstheproper
operationoftheABS.
ParkingBrake
WARNING
Topreventpropertydamage,personalinjury,and
/ordeath,undernocircumstancesshouldthe
springbrakesectionofthespringandservice
brakechamberbedisassembled.Disassembly
willreleaseapowerfulspring.
Allvehicleswithairbrakesareequippedwithspringbrake
chambersforparking.Theparkingsystemisoperatedmanually
byasinglevalve,whichinthecaseofatractoralsocontrolsthe
parkingsystemonthetrailer.
Thepurposeofthisbrakeistoholdthevehicleinaparked
position.Theparkingbrakeshouldnotbeusedtobrakethe
vehicleduringnormaldriving.
Toapplytheparkingbrake,pulloutcontrolknob.T oreleasethe
parkingbrake,pushinthecontrolknob.
Itshouldbenotedthatuponlossofairpressureinbothprimary
andsecondarysystems,partialspringbrakeapplicationwill
occurpriortofullautomaticapplicationoftheparkingbrake
controlvalveat20-45psi(138-310kPa).
