Operation
DoubleClutchProcedures
Inordertoproperlyupshiftordownshift,besuretodothe
following:
•Depresstheclutchpedaltodisengagetheclutch.
•ShiftthetransmissionintoNeutral.
•Releasetheclutchpedal.
•Ifupshifting,waituntiltheenginespeedmatches
thetransmissionspeedofthegearyoudesireto
shiftinto.
•Ifdownshifting,acceleratetheengineuntilthe
enginespeedmatchestheinputspeedofthegear
youdesiretoshiftinto.
•Depresstheclutchpedalimmediatelyandshiftintothe
desiredgear.
•Releasetheclutchpedaltoengagetheclutch.
ClutchBrake
NOTE:AfterengagementofrstgearDONOTusetheclutch
brakeforupshiftinganddownshifting.Todosowillshorten
theservicelifeoftheclutchbrake,andgearselectionshift
effortsmaybeincreased.
Aclutchbrakeisusedtostoptransmissioninputshaftrotationso
thattheinitialrstorreversegearselectioncanbeaccomplished
whenthevehicleisatastandstillandtheengineisrunningat
idlespeed.
Whenusingtheclutchbrake,fullydepresstheclutchpedaland
shiftthetransmissionintoeitherrstorreversegear.Ifthe
transmissiondoesnotgointorstgearorreverse,toothbutting
maybeoccurring.Slowlyreleasetheclutchpedalwhileapplying
lightpressureontheshiftleveruntilthetransmissiongoesinto
gear.Thiswillprovideforasmoothshiftintoeitherrstorreverse
gear.
ClutchPrecautions
Maintainspeciedclutchadjustment.Regularlyinspectclutch
controllinkagefortightness.
Whenadjustmentoftheclutchisnecessary,itisextremely
importantthattheworkbeproperlyperformed;otherwise,early
failureoftheclutchwillresultandacostlyclutchoverhaulwill
benecessary.
Toavoidneedlessdelayandexpense,allowonlycompetentand
experiencedmechanicstoperformtheseoperations.
