SECTION8—MAINTENANCEINTERVALSANDSPECIFICATIONS
LubricationandMaintenanceIntervals
Allnewvehiclesarefactory-lubricated.Oncethevehicleis
inoperation,regularlubricationandmaintenanceintervals
(basedonthetypeofserviceandroadconditions)mustbe
establishedandperformed.Loadweight,vehiclespeed,road
conditions,andweatherconditionsallcontributetolubrication
frequency.Performingthoroughlubricationandmaintenance
atthespeciedintervalswillensureanoutstandingvehiclelife
andwillreduceoveralloperatingexpense.
TheLUBRICATIONANDMAINTENANCEINTERVALCHART
containsanextensivelistofcomponentsandsystems.Listed
itemsandsystemsmustberegularlyinspected,serviced,and
/orreplacedtomaximizevehicleavailabilityandminimize
unexpectedfailures.Recommendedsynchronizedintervalsare
shownforeachitem.Thischartcanserveasaconvenient
one-stopreferencetoresearchmostmaintenanceneeds.
Onlylubricantsofsuperiorquality,suchasFleetrite
®
lubricants,
shouldbeused.Theuseofinferiorproductswillreducethe
servicelifeofthevehicleorresultinfailureofitscomponents.

lubricantsfor
optimumperformance.
MaintenanceIntervals
Maintenanceintervalsprovidedinthismanualarefornormal
highwayandenvironmentalserviceconditions.
Theseintervalsmaybeexpressedinmiles(kilometers),hours
ofoperation,and/ormonthsofoperation.Itisimportanttonote
thatinhighdutycycletypesofoperationand/orwhereoperating
conditionsareextremelysevere(suchasindeepwater,mudor
unusuallydustyconditions),thevehiclemayrequirelubrication
muchmorefrequentlythanspeciedinthismanual.
NOTE:ThemaintainerisadvisedrefertotheOriginal
EquipmentComponentManufacturerforthemostupto
datespecicserviceinstructions,requiredcapacitiesand
lubricatingoils.
Themaintainermaywishtosynchronizeenginerelated
itemswithotherlubrication/maintenanceintervalsin
ordertoreducedowntime,eventhoughtherecommended
intervalsintheEngineOperationandMaintenanceManual
maybelonger.
Thesynchronized“A”and“B”serviceintervalsaredesignedto
coordinatemaintenanceactivitiesandtoprovidetheappropriate
levelsforservicingcomponents.Followingtheserviceintervals
minimizesthenumberoftimesperyearthatthevehiclemust
bebroughtintotheshop.Inadditiontothe“A”and“B”service
intervals,the“Special”ServiceIntervalcolumnisprovided
foritemsthatneedinfrequentservicing.Inmostcases,
theseserviceintervalsrepresenttherecommendedmaximum
intervals.Forsomecomponents,however,themanufacturer’s
recommendedmaintenanceintervalsmayhavebeenshortened
toallowsynchronizationwithothermaintenancetasks.
EngineOperationandMaintenanceManualmaximum
intervals(basedontheactualoperatingconditions
speciedinthatmanual)mustneverbeexceeded.
