Thefunctionoftheairdryeristocollectandremovemoisture
andcontaminantsbeforethecompressedairreachestheair
reservoirs.Thisprotectstheairsystemcomponentsfrom
malfunctioningincludingblockage,corrosion,andfreezing.
Forairtankdrainingrequirements,refertotheMaintenance
Instructionssectionaswellaslocalregulations.
Theairdryerisinstalledinthedischargelinebetweentheair
compressorandtheairsystemreservoirs.Theairdryerincludes
areplaceabledesiccantcartridgeandoilblockinglterthatis
periodicallyserviced.Italsomayincludeaheatertopreventthe
dischargevalvefromfreezingincoldweather.
TrailerBrakeHandControl
WARNING
Topreventpropertydamage,personalinjury,and
/ordeath,thehandcontrolvalveshouldneverbe
usedtoapplythetrailerbrakeswhenthetractor
andtrailerareparked.Airpressuremayleakfrom
thesystem,andthevehiclecouldrollaway.
Thetrailerbrakehandcontrolisusedtoapplythetrailerservice
brakes,independentlyofthetractorservicebrakes.Thetrailer
brakehandcontroloperatesavalvethatprovidesgradualcontrol
ofairpressureappliedtothetrailerservicebrakes.Thetrailer
servicebrakescanbefullyorpartiallyapplied,butwhenina
partialposition,canbeoverriddenbypressingfullyonthebrake
pedal.
Toapplythetrailerservicebrakesutilizingthehandcontrol,
movetheleverclockwise(down).Thefurtherthehandleis
movedclockwise,thegreatertheairpressureappliedtothe
trailerbrakes.Thetrailerhandbrakehandlewillremainin
placewiththedesiredbrakepressureapplieduntilthehandle
ismanuallymoved.Toreleasethetrailerbrakes,movehandle
counterclockwise(up)untiltrailermovesfreely.
