Frequentlyinspectconditionoffueltanksandmounting
hardware,fueltankcapandvent,fuellines,clipsandrouting.
AteveryPreventiveMaintenance(PM)(ordailyifnecessary)
drainwaterandsedimentfromthefuel/waterseparator
lter(ifequipped).Ifthevehicleisequippedwithanoptional
Davco
®
fuel/waterseparator,inspectthelevelofthefuelinthe
see-throughglobeandreplacethefuel/waterseparatorlter
elementifthefuellevelhasreachedthetopoftheglobe.In
allcases,besuretousetheproperfuel/waterseparatorlter
elementwiththecorrectpartnumberandlterefciencyrating.
FuelTankDrainingandCleaning
Periodically(annuallyisrecommended)drainwaterand
sedimentfromthefueltankviathedrainplugonthebottomof
thefueltank.Drainandushsedimentfromfueltankatleast
every12monthsormorefrequentlyiffuelqualityortypeoffuel
dictates.
SinceUltra-LowSulfurDiesel(ULSD)fueltendstoabsorb
morewaterandenginesareoperatingathighertemperatures,
microbegrowthinthefueltankshasbecomemoreprevalent.
Microbegrowthresultsinmorecontaminantsinthefueland
reducesfuellterlife.Sincefueltankdrainingdoesnotremove
allmicrobes,fueltankdrainingalonewillnoteliminatethe
problem.Forvehicleoperatorsexperiencingmicrobegrowthin
theirfuel,thefollowingisrecommended:
1.Drainandcleanthefueltank(s)every12monthsor
moreoften.Cleanthetankswithaprofessionalfueltank
cleaningsystem(availablethroughyourdealer),orhave
yourlocaldealerperformtheserviceforyou.
2.Treatyourvehiclefueltanksandbulktanksregularly
withabiocidefromareputablevendor.
3.Purchasefuelonlyfromvendorsthatpretreattheirfuel
withbiocides.
4.Periodicallytestthefuelsuppliedbyyourfuelvendorfor
thepresenceofmicrobes.
