Regeneration
CollectedsootparticlesintheDieselParticulateFilter(DPF)
areautomaticallyburnedoffthroughnormalregeneration
(initiatedbynormalexhaustheatduringthenormaloperation
ofthevehicle).Ifconditionsfornormalregenerationcannot
beachieved,itmaybenecessarytoperformaparked
regenerationasindicatedbytheinstrumentpanelgaugecluster
warningindicators.SeetheParkedRegenerationProcedurein
SECTION6—OPERATION.
Cleaning
Ifon-vehicleregenerationisunsuccessfulatremovingsootfrom
theDPF,theDPFmayneedtoberemovedfromthevehicleand
becleanedwiththeappropriatemachineryandprocesses.
AshresidueintheDPFcomesprimarilyfromfuelandoil
additivesandwillnotburnorpassthroughtheDPF.Ashresidue
accumulatesveryslowlyintheDPFbutmusteventuallybe
removedtopreventexcessiveexhaustbackpressure.Ifthe
DPFneedstohavenonregenerablesootortheashresidue
removed,pleasetakethevehicletoanInternationaldealer.
DriveShafts
Attheregularlubricationinterval,checkuniversaljoints,slip
joints,slipjointboot,andcarrierbearingsforanyevidenceof
wearorlooseness.Shoulddriveshaftvibrationsoccur,stopthe
vehicleimmediatelytoavoidpossiblehazardousconsequences
ordamagetoothercomponents.
