MaintenanceManualforcoolantservicelifedetails.
Someenginesareorderedwithanoptionalcoolantlterthat
shouldbereplacedperiodically.
ELCequippedvehiclesuseonlywaterlterswithout
SupplementalCoolantAdditives(SCAs)asSCAsarenot
necessarywithextendedlifecoolant.Navistarrecommends
ELCduetoitseaseofmaintenanceandlowerlong-termcostof
operation.

Coolingsystemsshouldbecheckedtwiceayeartoensure
propercoolantwaterconcentrations.A53/47coolant/water
mixturefromthefactoryprovidesfreezeprotectiondownto
minus-40°F(-40°C)aswellasexcellentcorrosionprotection.A
50/50mixturecanbeeasilycreatedintheshopusingundiluted
coolantandwater,anditwillprovidefreezeprotectiondown
to-34°F(-36.7°C)ifnofurtherdilutionisexperiencedduring
installation.
Concentrationsgreaterthan67%arenotrecommended.The
useofShellRotella
®
UltraELCpre-mixedtomakeupforcoolant
losswillensuretheglycol/waterconcentrationsstayinbalance.
