3.DeaerationT ank
Tofunctionproperly,thecoolantsystemmustbecompletelylled
withcoolantandallairmustbeexpelled.T oaccomplishthis,the
followingproceduresshouldbecarefullycompleted:
1.Turnonignitionwithoutstartingthevehicle.
2.Fullyopencabheatercoolantshutoffvalvesandcoolant
systemventvalve.
3.Removellcapandpoura50/50mixture(75/25
ifithasbeenushedwithwater)oftheproper
coolantconcentrate(refertoLubricantandSealer
SpecicationsinsectionMaintenanceIntervalsand
Specications)anddemineralizedordistilledwater
intothedeaerationtank.A50/50coolantmixturewill
achievea-34°F(-37°C)freezepoint.A53/47coolant
mixturewillachievea-40°F(-40°C)freezepoint.The
rstpourshouldreachtothetopofthereservoirll
neck.
4.Closetheventintheupperradiatorpipewhenairis
purged.
5.Openthelowerradiatorpipeventuntilcoolantcomes
out,andcloseit.
6.Starttheengine,andcontinuetoaddenoughcoolant
tokeepthecoolantlevelbetweentheCOLDMINand
COLDMAXlevelsmarkedonthedeaerationtank.
Replacethedeaerationtankcaptightlyafteradding
make-upcoolantfor2minutes.
7.Runengineatgovernedspeeduntilenginetemperature
reaches185°F(85°C).
