Tofunctionproperly,thecoolantsystemmustbecompletelylled
withcoolantandallairmustbeexpelled.T oaccomplishthis,the
followingproceduresshouldbecarefullycompleted:
1.Turnonignitionwithoutstartingthevehicle.Thisopens
theelectricallyactuatedcoolantowvalve.
2.Fullyopencabheatercoolantshutoffvalvesandcoolant
systemventvalve.
3.Removellcapandpoura50/50mixture(75/25
ifithasbeenushedwithwater)oftheproper
coolantconcentrate(refertoLubricantandSealer
SpecicationsinsectionMaintenanceIntervalsand
Specications)anddemineralizedordistilledwater
intothedeaerationtank.A50/50coolantmixturewill
achievea-34°F(-37°C)freezepoint.A53/47coolant
mixturewillachievea-40°F(-40°C)freezepoint.The
rstpourshouldreachtothetopofthereservoirll
neck.
4.Becausetheradiatorllsslowly,itisimportantto
continuetotopoffthesystemfor2minutesfollowing
theinitialll.
5.Closecoolantsystemventvalve,starttheengine,and
continuetoaddenoughcoolanttokeepthecoolantlevel
betweentheCOLDMINandCOLDMAXlevelsmarked
onthedeaerationtank.Replacethedeaerationtankcap
tightlyafteraddingmake-upcoolantfor2minutes.
6.Runengineatgovernedspeeduntilenginefanhasfully
engagedfor5minutes.Donotexceed220°F(104°C).
7.Letenginecompletelycool.Recheckcoolantleveland
concentration/freezepointwitharefractometerandtop
