InstructionsforProperMaintenance
Inordertocomplywithfederalexteriornoiseregulations,your
vehiclemaybeequippedwithnoiseemissionitemsthatmust
beproperlymaintained,used,andrepaired.Dependingupon
thevehicleconguration,itmayincorporateallorsomeofthe
following:
AirIntakeSystem
•AirCleaner–Shouldbeinspectedanditslocationshould
notbealtered.Donotalterinletandoutletpiping.
Body
•WheelWell–Splashshields,cabshields,andunderhood
insulationshouldbeinspectedfordeterioration,
dislocation,andorientationandrepairedorreplacedas
necessary.
CoolingSystem
•Checkfanfordamagetoblades.Replace,ifdamaged,
withmanufacturer'srecommendedparts.Inspectfor
fan-to-shroudinterferenceandanydamagetoshroud,
suchascracksandholes.
•Fanspeedratioshouldnotbechangedandfanspacer
dimensionsandpositionshouldnotbealtered.
•Inspectforproperoperationoffanclutch,makingsure
thatthefanisdisengagedwhencoolingofengineisnot
required.
EngineNoiseShields/Blankets
•Enginevalvecovers,oilpans,andblockcoversaremade
todampoutenginemechanicalnoiseand,ifneeded,
shouldbereplacedwithoriginalequipmentparts.
ExhaustSystem
•Inspectforleaksatvariousjointconnectionsandtighten
clamps.Makevisualinspectionforcracksorholesin
muferandtailpipe.Alwaysreplacewithmanufacturer's
recommendedparts.Tailpipeelboworoffsettailpipe
orientationmustnotbechangedfromstandardposition
asoriginallyreceived.
•Topreventabnormalchangesinvehiclesoundlevel,
itisnecessaryfortheownertoperforminspections
andnecessarymaintenanceattheintervalsshown
inthemaintenanceschedules,andrecordthemon
themaintenancerecord(MaintenanceRecord–Noise
Control,page230)formprovided.
