Security
HDX systems provide a rich set of security controls and features that can be
used to ensure the safety and privacy of communications made with the
system as well as protect access to the system by only authorized users. This
chapter describes these features in detail.
You can configure many of the security features of the HDX system through
the local interface, but some security settings are configurable only through
the HDX web interface.
To configure your HDX system using the HDX web interface, you must use
Internet Explorer version 6.x, 7.x, or 8.x and configure your browser to allow
cookies.
To go to the web interface:
>> Open a web browser and enter the IP address of the HDX system using the
http://IPaddress
(for example,
http://10.11.12.13
) or
https://IPaddress
format. If you operate within a secure environment
with the Maximum Security Profile or Security Mode enabled, you must
use the https://IPaddress format.
For more information about using the web interface, refer to Accessing the
Polycom HDX Web Interface on page 9-1.
Use the HTTPS protocol to ensure that the configuration of all login information
(such as user names and passwords) is transmitted using an encrypted channel,
including those user names and passwords used to communicate with third-party
systems on your network. Using HTTPS severely limits the ability of anyone on the
network to discover these credentials. For this reason, Polycom strongly
recommends that all access to the web interface be done using HTTPS. You can
force the use of HTTPS by enabling the Security Mode setting (Admin Settings >
General Settings > Security > Security Settings > Security Mode).
When you log in to use the system, you see a popup message showing the last
successful login (in local time), the source of that login, and the number of
unsuccessful login attempts to the HDX system that have been made from any
source since the last login.
