1. APST – Automatic Pad Stripping.
2. Applicable only in forced mode (See Table 24).
Filtering
Over time the MA-428 Enhanced LAN Bridge will automatically learn and store a table with up to
10,000 MAC addresses of devices on the WAN. When the filter is on, the MA-428 Enhanced LAN
Bridge will use the MAC address table to only allow frames destined for another LAN over the WAN.
When the filter is off, all frames are sent over the WAN. RFL recommends that this setting be left in
the default (DOWN) position for optimum operation of the DS-562NC.
Compression
Compression increases data throughput. Valid Ethernet frames have a minimum length of 64 bytes.
Shorter frames are padded. With compression enabled (by asserting the APST signal), these padding
bytes are stripped off before transmission over the WAN, and re-padded while being received at the
other end. RFL recommends that this setting be left in the default (DOWN) position for optimum
operation of the DS-562NC.
Auto-negotiation and Forced mode
Auto-negotiation can be selected for the port so that the fastest bandwidth is always selected. The
following table gives all the combinations of auto-negotiation and forced mode.
