Handling the battery
– A defective battery must only be repaired by
the authorised service centre.

– Open the filler cap (1) and chec
k the acid
level.
For batteries with "caged cell plugs", the liquid
must reach the bottom of the cage.
For batteries without "caged cell plugs", the
liquid must reach a height of approx. 10 to 15
mm above the lead plates.
– If the fluid level is too low,
topupthefluid
with only distilled or demi
neralised water.
– Clean the battery cell covers and dry if
necessary.
– Remove any oxidation residue on the
battery terminals then coat the terminals
with acid-free grease.

service centre in accord
ance with the bat-
tery manufacturer's in
structions.
– Check the acid density with an acidimeter.
After charging, the acid density must be
between 1.28 and 1.30 kg/l.
For a discharged batter
y, the acid density
must be no lower than 1.14 k
g/l.
– Close the filler cap (1) again.
