CDM-570A/570AL Satellite Modem with Optional Packet Processor
Revision 5
Ethernet-based Remote Product Management 7–56 MN-CDM570A
Compatibility Mode
Because certain features of the CDM-570A/570AL Satellite Modem are not backward-compatible
with the CDM-570 (70/140 MHz) and CDM-570L (L-Band) Satellite Modems, the CDM-
570A/570AL provides a “compatibility mode” that is intended for use in existing networks that
commingle operations of the CDM-570A/570AL and the CDM-570/L.
Use the option buttons top select CDM-570A Mode or CDM-570 Mode. Click [Submit] to
execute the selection.
Be sure to take the following operational conditions into consideration when using Compatibility
Mode operation:
1. Use of CDM-0570 Compatibility Mode is NOT required if the CDM-570A/570AL
is a component in a new or existing network that does NOT include CDM-
570/L modems.
2. Certain page functionality becomes disabled or inaccessible while the
modem is set to CDM-570 Compatibility Mode:
• ‘Configuration | Modem’ page (Sect. 7.4.3.3.1)
o Transmit section: Tx Clock Invert
o Receive section: Rx Clock Invert
o Carrier-in-Carrier (CnC) section (including APC settings)
• ‘Configuration | Overhead’ page (Sect. 7.4.3.3.7)
o CnC-APC section
• ‘Configuration | Utilities’ page (this section)
o BERT Config section
o BERT Monitor section
3. Certain feature options becomes disabled and unavailable while the modem
is set to CDM-570 Compatibility Mode.
• ‘Configuration | Modem’ page (Sect. 7.4.3.3.1)
o Transmit section:
Tx FEC Type – VersaFEC and ULL unavailable*
Tx Filter Rolloff Factor – Becomes fixed at 0.35
o Receive section:
Rx FEC Type – VersaFEC and ULL unavailable*
Rx Filter Rolloff Factor – Becomes fixed at 0.35
(*FEC Type defaults to Viterbi; Modulation/Demodulation Types,
FEC Code Rates, and Data Rates all adjust accordingly)
4. Certain operational settings will reset to a default or fallback value when the
modem is set to CDM-570 Compatibility Mode. You must be sure to
reconfigure the modem to your previously configured settings.
• ‘Configuration | Modem’ page (CDM/R-570AL only) (Sect. 7.4.3.3.1)
o Transmit section: Frequency value >2000 MHz resets to 1201 MHz
o Receive section: Frequency value >2000 MHz resets to 1201 MHz
• ‘Configuration | Utilities’ page (this section)
5. Clocks section: If Internal plus output selected, resets to Internal.
