Once opened, inspect the shipment:
Keep all shipping materials.
Check the packing list to make sure the shipment is complete.

Inspect the equipment for damage. If damage exists, immediately contact the carrier
and Comtech EF Data to submit a damage report.
2.2 Install the Modem into a Rack Enclosure
Install the modem in its assigned position in the rack enclosure (Figure 2-2).
Use, as required:
• A standard rack-mounted shelf;
• User-supplied screws to secure the front panel to the rack enclosure threaded front
mounting rails;
• Comtech EF Data’s optional KT/6228-2 (4”) or KT/6228-3 (10”) Rear Support Brackets Kit

• CAUTION – PROPER GROUNDING PROTECTION IS REQUIRED TO PREVENT
PERSONAL INJURY AND EQUIPMENT DAMAGE. You must make sure the
ground stud on the rear panel of the modem is always connected to the
protective earth.
• SUFFICIENT AIR VENTILATION IS REQUIRED: The modem CANNOT have
rack slides mounted to the sides of the modem. Cooling fans and exhaust
vents are provided here – air flow must not be impeded.
Make sure there is adequate air ventilation clearance inside the enclosure,
especially at the sides. In a rack system where there is high heat discharge,
provide forced-air cooling with top- or bottom-mounted fans or blowers.
• MAXIMUM AIR TEMPERATURE: Make sure the air temperature inside the
enclosure never exceeds 50°C (122°F).
