D.1 Overview
The High-Performance Packet Processor is available as a factory-installed
option or as a field-upgradeable option (see Sect. D.1.1.3).
The optional High-Performance Packet Processor makes the CDM-570A/570AL a high-
performance, low-cost, IP-centric satellite modem that is well-suited for point-to-point and point-
to-multipoint applications.
(This appendix identifies this optionally-equipped modem as the CDM-570A/570AL-IP. The
CDM-570A/570AL-IP and other compatible, IP-centric Comtech EF Data modems may also be
generically referred to throughout this appendix as the CDM-IP.)
In addition to providing both Layer 2/Layer 3 functionality, the CDM-570A/570AL-IP incorporates
a number of key features for Wide Area Network (WAN) bandwidth optimization, including Header
Compression, Payload compression, and Advanced Quality of Service (QoS).
The CDM-570A/570AL-IP enables efficient IP networking and transport over satellite, in either
Router Mode or Managed Switch Mode, by adding routing capability with very low overhead
encapsulation, header compression, payload compression, and QoS. The Advanced QoS
combined with header and payload compression ensures the highest quality of service with
minimal jitter and latency for real-time traffic, priority treatment of mission critical applications and
maximum bandwidth efficiency.
The CDM-570A/570AL-IP can be used in a Vipersat Management System (VMS).
