Chapter 70:
Using ColorID
Using ColorID with a colorimeter
One of the most accurate methods of matching colors is to use a colorimeter, especially when
you are trying to match a color such as a customer’s unique shade or a corporate identification
color. The colorimeter expresses colors numerically according to international standards. The
numeric definition from the colorimeter is matched against the numeric definition databases in
the ColorID software to provide the best possible color match.
Basic steps for using ColorID with a colorimeter
The sequential steps for using ColorID with a colorimeter to match colors are:
opening the ColorID program
assigning the colorimeter COM port
choosing the source of the color
choosing the matching palette
calibrating the colorimeter
taking the measurement
matching the color
Opening ColorID
To obtain the best visual color matching on the screen, you should check your computer
monitor color display. Before opening the ColorID program, set the Color Palette on the
Windows Display Properties dialog box to High Color (16) or True Color.
Note: Either palette setting is fine, but the True Color display uses more memory. Also, when
you change the setting from 256 Color, some applications (such as Paint) may not operate the
same as before the change.
