12.2.3 Earthing the truck crane
The truck crane may become charged with static electricity. This may occur
especially when using outrigger pads made of plastic or when the outrigger
pads are packed with insulating material (e.g. wooden planks).
Use electrically conducting material for
earthing.
• Hammer a metal rod (3) (length about 2.0 m
(6.6 ft)) at least 1.5 m (5 ft) into the ground.
• For better conductivity, dampen the soil
around the metal rod (3).
• Clamp an insulated cable (3) to the metal
rod (2) (cross-section of at least 16 mm
2
(0.025 in
2
))
• Connect the free end of the cable using a
clamp (1).
• Attach the clamp to the main boom or the superstructure.

B
Risk of accident due to electric shock
