C.4 Validating the bucket guidance
To check that the system is providing accurate guidance to the bucket tips, follow
the steps below.
If you have access to an on-site control point:
(Northing, Easting and elevation are known)
1. Position the bucket focus point on the control point.
2. Set the following text items:
Northing
Easting
Elevation
3. Compare the coordinates of the positions that appear on-screen to the control
point coordinates.
If you do not have access to an on site control point:
1. Bench the bucket. For more information, refer to the GCS900 Grade Control
System for Excavators Operator's Manual.
2. Access the Text Items dialog from Setup Menu – Configuration, and select the
Cut/Fill and Reach text items that match the bucket focus point.
3. To check the Cut/Fill:
a. Raise the bucket.
b. Use a tape to measure the distance between the bench point and the
bucket focus point. Compare your measurement with the one that appears
on the guidance screen.
4. To check the Reach:
a. Extend or retract the bucket.
b. Use a tape to measure the distance between the bench point and the
bucket focus point. Compare your measurement with the one that appears
on the guidance screen.
