9 2D system measurements
9.4 General techniques
l Unless otherwise specified, make all point measurements to the center of the
pin, and down the centerline of the excavator.
l To check the distance between two points in the plane of the excavator’s
centerline, when the line between the points is not parallel to the centerline:
a. measure the straight line distance between the points
b. measure the offset to the machine centerline of each point
c. determine the distance between the two points in the plane of the
excavator’s centerline by calculating the sides of a triangle
9.5 Preparing the machine
Before you take any machine measurement, make sure that you position the
machine correctly.
1. Park the excavator on level ground, with the centerline of the body parallel to
the tracks.
2. Rest the bucket on the ground.
9.6 Stick measurements
Measure from the:
l stick pin B to bucket pin G
For Cat PSC systems and if the bucket sensor is mounted on the idler arm/ dogbone
only, measure from the:
l linkage pin D to bucket pin G
l linkage pin D to bucket ram pin F
