USER MANAGEMENT
Introduction
In Alcatel OmniPCX Office, users are defined by an account name or "login" and its associated pas-
sword. The login and password are in a very real sense the users ID card, and will be asked for in the
following circumstances:
- By the e-mail server, in order to enable the user to collect mail from his local mailbox;
- By the proxy, if configured to require authentication (see Proxy chapter), in order to clear the user
for Internet access;
- By the PPTP server, if the user wants to access the local network via the Internet (see VPN chapter);
- On each access to OmniPCX, in order to enable the user to modify certain account settings.
Configuration
Creating users
The various input fields – in the order in which the configuration screens appear – are as follows:
First Name: the user's first name (optional)
Last Name: the user's last name
Password: the user's password.
Confirm Password: the user's password again.
The account name (login) thus created will be:
- <First Name>.<Last Name> if the First Name field is not empty.
- <Last Name> if the First Name field is empty
the user created can be either a standard user or an administrator. Administrators have wider-ran-
ging rights in terms of access to OmniPCX Office configuration.
