ELECTRONIC MESSAGINGE-SERVER : INTERNET APPLICATIONS
Ed. 04 11/18Réf. 3EH 21000 BSAA
create and manage the distribution lists. A distribution list holds several electronic addresses under the
same name, which allows users to fill in the name of the list as the recipient of a message (name of a
service for instance), rather than having to fill in all the addresses of the individuals concerned.
Using this menu, the administrator has the facility to create and manage distribution lists. It is then
possible to add, delete or modify one or more existing distribution lists. During the operations and for
the purpose of ergonomics, Alcatel OmniPCX Office displays the entire list of users held both on the
system and in the distribution list being looked at, along with their related electronic address.
Nota : When electronic messages are sent to a distribution list, the name of the distribution list de-
fined in Alcatel OmniPCX Office has to be entered in the "Recipient" field. The system then
replaces the list with persons involved, and sends the message to these persons. The user
needs to know the name of the distribution lists entered in OmniPCX Office, because he
does not have direct access to this list from his workstation.
Configuration of the client terminal
The messaging client present on the client terminal (Messenger, Eudora, Outlook, Exchange, etc ...)
must be configured to allow the LAN user to send and receive electronic messages from his PC.
Three possibilities can be considered in relation to the topologies encountered:
- Alcatel OmniPCX Office is the messaging server for the client terminals. In this case, the messaging
client must be configured in order to include Alcatel OmniPCX Office as the POP3 and SMTP server.
- There is already an internal messaging server for the client terminals of the LAN. In this case, there
is no need to re-configure the client terminals. Only the messaging server will need to be re-confi-
gured in order to talk to Alcatel OmniPCX Office and to send or receive electronic messages to and
from the outside.
- The IAP is the messaging server, Alcatel OmniPCX Office is only a gateway. In this case, the mes-
saging client must be re-configured to include the IAP's POP3 and SMTP servers together with the
POP3 account of the user and his password.
