REMOTE ACCESS BY ISDN MODEM
ISDN modem recommended
Alcatel OmniPCX Office is equipped with an 64 K ISDN modem using PPP protocol for remote access
through the public network. It offers a point-to-point link accessible for standard LINUX protocols (SLIP,
PPP...). The following modems has been validated:
- KORTEX NOVAFAX ISDN 128000/33600 with PPP protocol
- FRITZ! X CAPI 2.0 or any standard "FRITZ" modem
- Multitech I Way Hopper MTA 128 ST 128 KBPS ISDN
Usually, an ISDN modem from 64 to 128 K supporting PPP protocol will be compatible.
RAS installation process
The procedures described hereafter relate to PC under Windows NT4 having the "IP stack." option The
use of remote access requires to have RAS (Remote Access Service) installed on the PC.
There are two phases for installation process:
- Install the RAS for the Alcatel modem (V24 modem)
- Install the ISDN modem and configure the RAS to use it.
Nota : To install the RAS, it is mandatory to have the Administrator rights , the Windows NT instal-
lation CD-ROM and service Pack 6.
RAS installation process
-Open the Control panel.
-Open the Network folder.
- Select Services tab
-Click on Add.
- Select in the list Remote Access Services.
- When asked by Windows NT"Set-up", select the driver's path or provide Windows NT CD installa-
tion CD Rom.
- Select in the modem list, Com 1 Alizé direct connection 115000 Bds or Com 2 Alizé ... for a
future use of V24 PM5 connection
-Click on Continue
-Click on Close, then click on continue
- CAUTION CAUTION CAUTION
- At the end of the installation, the system asks "to restart the computer now"
-Click on NO.
- Now install service Pack 6 "spxi386.exe" with your Windows NT CD Rom Installation.
- Reboot the PC
