SECTION 39 - FRAMES - CHAPTER 1
39-2
ADJUSTMENT
WARNING
Disengage the PTO, turn off the tractor engine
and remove the key. Wait for all movement to
stop before leaving operator’s position. Never
adjust, lubricate, clean or unplug machine with
the engine running. Failure to comply could
result in death or serious injury.
The cutter bar flotation is controlled by flotation
springs, 1, at each end of the header.
Adjust the cutter bar flotation for about 45.5 -- 54.5 kg
(100 -- 120 lb) at each end of the header for normal
cutting conditions.
To cut at higher ground speeds, 8 -- 11 KPH (5 -- 7
MPH) on smooth fields, increase flotation to 59 -- 68
kg (130 -- 150 lb) Tighten the adjusting bolts at the top
of the flotation springs and check flotation with the
header swung fully to the right, lowered to the
ground, and tilted to the desired angle.
NOTE: Check and adjust the cutter bar flotation
when switching to tractors with different drawbar
heights, or when installing or removing the high
stubble kit.

Raise the cutter bar center shield and lift on the left
and right end supports, 1 and 2. Operating with
heavier than necessary weight causes side draft and
excessive wear to the cutter bar components. Using
too little weight causes the header to leave long
stubble because the header does not quickly return
to ground level after crossing a bump.
NOTE: Check flotation frequently. Crop and dirt
buildup can cause the flotation weights to change.
