Operate the engine until the coolant temperature is above
82°C [180°F], and check for leaks.
Draining the Cooling System (1-07)
Position the vehicle on level ground.
Warning: Wait until the coolant temperature is below
50°C [120°F] before removing the system pressure cap.
Failure to do so can cause personal injury from heated
coolant spray.
Remove the radiator cap after the engine is cool.
Drain the cooling system as follows:
• Open the radiator draincocks.
• Remove the lower radiator hose(s).
NOTE: If the coolant is not going to be reused, dispose of
used coolant/antifreeze in accordance with federal, state,
and local law and regulations.
NOTE: If the coolant is to be used again, the container must
be free of oil and dirt. Before pouring coolant back into the
engine, it must be tested for SCA concentration. Refer to
Procedure 1-05.
