Use the valve spring tester, Part No. 3375182, to mea-
sure the spring force.
Compress the spring to a height of 59.18 mm [2.330 inch].
The force required to compress the spring to the specified
height must be:
MIN: 105.2 N [23.65 lbf]
MAX: 123.8 N [27.85 lbf]
Cleaning and Inspection - Oil Cooler Transfer
Housing
Clean all gasket surfaces.
Inspect for cracks or damage.
Inspect the bypass valve seat.
NOTE: Do not allow dirt or gasket material to fall into the oil
passages.
Cleaning and Inspection - Oil Cooler Bypass
Valve
Visually inspect the valve for damage. Any damage to the
front face of the valve will allow oil to constantly bypass
the oil cooler.
Testing - Oil Cooler Core
Caution: Do not reuse an oil cooler core after an engine
failure since there is not a practical method to clean the
cooler core. Metal particles which can circulate through
the lubricating system can remain in the cooler core and
can cause engine damage. Do not allow dirt or gasket
material to enter the oil passages when cleaning the oil
cooler and the cylinder block surface.
