Air Compressor Air Pressure Rises Slowly
Cause Corrections
----------
Intake Air Restriction to Air Compressor
Excessive (Naturally Aspirated Air
Compressors Only)
OK
f
Replace air compressor air cleaner (if
installed). Check engine intake air restriction
if air compressor inlet is installed in intake
piping between air cleaner and turbocharger.
Refer to Procedure 3-04.
----------
Air System Leaks
OK
f
Block vehicle wheels and check for system
air leaks with spring brakes applied and
released. Check for air compressor gasket,
hoses, fittings, etc., leaks. Refer to Procedure
4-02. Check safety pressure valve leaks.
Rating must be 150 psi. Check safety
pressure valve location. Move if located near
air compressor outlet. Refer to the manufac-
turer’s instructions for other air system leaks.
----------
Air Governor Malfunctioning or Set
Incorrectly
OK
f
Check air governor operation. Refer to
Procedure 4-04.
----------
Carbon Buildup Excessive In The Air
Discharge Line, Check Valve, and/or
Cylinder Head
OK
f
To check carbon buildup, refer to Procedure
4-01. To replace air compressor head, refer to
Procedure 4-06. To replace discharge line,
refer to the equipment manufacturer. Check
the turbocharger for oil leakage. Refer to
Procedure 3-02.
----------
Air System Component is Malfunctioning
OK
f
Check operation of check valves, alcohol
evaporators, air driers, etc. Refer to the
manufacturer’s instructions.
----------
Unloader Valve Malfunctioning. Air
Compressor Intake or Exhaust Valve
