Use DHCPv6 to learn IPv6 addresses
You can configure the router to use DHCPv6 to learn an IPv6 address, DNS addresses, and delegated
prefixes from a DHCPv6 server. There are several options for learning IPv6 addresses from a DHCPv6
server:
n Solicit:The DHCPv6 client sends a Solicit message to the DHCPv6 servers to obtain the
address of a neighboring DHCP Agent, and to obtain one or more addresses for DHCP servers
which the DHCP Agent is configured to advertise.
n Renew: The DHCPv6 client sends a Renew message to the DHCPv6 server that originally
provided the client's addresses and configuration parameters, to renew the addresses for
DHCPv6 servers.
n Release: The DHCPv6 client sends a Release message to the DHCPv6 server that assigned
addresses to the client, indicating that the DHCPv6 client will no longer use one or more of the
assigned IPv6 addresses.
Command line
Use the command dhcpv6_client, specifying the requested action for the DHCPv6 client to perform.
dhcpv6_cl i ent sol i ci t | r enew| r el ease <ent i t y> <i nst ance>
where solicit, renew, and release perform the IP address learning actions described above.
For example,
dhcpv6_cl i ent r enew et h 0
