Possible Software Causes:
1. Drive setting too low. Check the Drive setting on the left side of the front panel. If using the 100W
PA, this should set the output to something near the value in watts (i.e. a setting of 65 should give a
tone when tuning around 65W). If using the 1W configuration, this will set the output to a
percentage of the audio drive where 100 represents a full watt (depends on the sound card).
2. Calibration needed. It may be necessary to run the PA calibration routine to calibrate the amplifier
using a 100W dummy load. This will set the audio drive through an iterative process using the ADC
on board the PA for calculating correction factors by band.
I am getting signal reports that indicate echoing or distortion.
Possible Hardware Causes:
1. Audio feedback due to Monitor. Using the monitor during voice communications is not
recommended as sensitive microphones can easily pick up amplified signals. Due to the processing
delay, this can sound like a repeated, fading echo. If using the monitor during voice
communications is absolutely necessary, headphones are recommended.
2. Microphone wiring problem. Many microphones are wired similarly to our 8-pin connector.
However, our setup requires that we separate the Mic ground from the chassis ground while most
microphones have these connected. Having those lines connected creates a ground loop in our
system that can result in distortion, echoing, or hum. For these reasons, it is preferable to connect
the microphone directly to the sound card if possible.
I am getting signal reports that indicate I am transmitting DSB while in
SSB modes.
Possible Hardware Causes:
Line Out cable partially unplugged or damaged. Make sure that the cable going to the plug marked
To Line Out is fully seated on both ends (enclosure and sound card). A single output channel (I or
Q) will transmit in double sideband.
Possible Software Causes:
TX Image Reject is set incorrectly. Try resetting the controls on the Setup Form - DSP Tab, Image
Reject Sub-Tab to zero for both Gain and Phase.
