I am getting an error message that says, “Error communicating with
ATU.”
Possible Hardware Causes:
Connector broken/not connected. This error is an indication that the software is not seeing the
signals from the ATU unit. If you are comfortable opening the enclosure, take the cover off and
verify that the larger cables connecting the ATU to the PA are making good contact.
Possible Software Causes:
ATU selected with hardware not present. Note that the software will not work if the ATU is
selected without the ATU hardware connected.
It seems like the ATU is not tuning correctly. Is there a way to check?
Yes. Checking the tuning is as easy as taking off the top of the enclosure and monitoring the LEDs
on the ATU. While tuning, you will see the red LED flash and you should hear the relays clicking
until the ATU finishes. If there is an error while tuning (like not enough RF), the red LED will flash.
When the ATU is sent a Bypass command, the Green LED will flash three times. The following
table details the feedback from the LEDs after a successful tune.
Table 13: ATU LED SWR Indicators
SWR Indicator
< 1.5 Steady Green
1.5 - 2.5 Flashing Green
> 2.5 No Green
