Cables should be installed starting from the lowest shelf in the bay and working
toward the top. The procedures described in this section should be followed for
optimum utilization of the bay cable ducts.
Cable assembly options are listed in Tables 3-1 through 3-6 on pages 3-32
through on Page 3-38. Connector pin outs are provided in Figure 3-3 on page 3-
48.
All of the front access cables, except the optical fibers, are connected to the
DDM-2000 OC-12 backplane.
It is a requirement that the DDM-2000 OC-12 be equipped with a protective
backplane cover before mounting in the bay.
It is important to carefully follow the procedures in this section to ensure that the
bay will accommodate all of the cables and that the backplane cover will fit prop-
erly.

The crimping tool, wire stripper, and soldering iron are only required if installing
DS3 cable Groups 100, 103, 106, 109, 110, 120, 123, 126, 130, 133, or 136.

1Wrist Strap

** A wrist strap must be worn when touching the DDM-2000 OC-12 backplane and
when connecting cables. Use an available electrostatic discharge jack.
1Wire-Wrap Gun

†† A wire wrap gun is required to make connections on alarm and telemetry
cables. The wire wrap gun must be able to accommodate 22 or 26 gauge wire.
1Ohmmeter
‡‡
‡‡ An ohmmeter is required to verify that the DDM-2000 OC-3 is properly
grounded.
Screwdriver(s)

*** A screwdriver with the appropriate head(s) is required for mounting the shelf,
heat baffles, fan, and cable brackets; for removing the front cover, rear cover;
and for some cables to the backplane.
