Troubleshooting Blockages
If the library halts and a system message indicates that the robotics are
blocked, use the follow steps to troubleshoot the problem.
1. If possible, use your storage management software to move any
cartridges that are currently in tape drives back their storage location.
If you cannot use your storage management software, then attempt to
move the cartridges as described in Moving Cartridges Within a
Partition on page 254.
2. If possible, pause PostScan if it is running (see Pause the PostScan
Process on page 297). Any tapes currently being scanned are returned
to their storage locations.
3. Discontinue all I/O to the library.
4. Power off the library (see Power Off the Library on page 157).
The power-down sequence takes approximately one minute, while the
library allows applications to shut down gracefully.
5. After the library has powered down, turn off both main AC power
breakers (see Figure 5 on page 35) on the back of the library and unplug
the power cords.
Note: With cord locks installed on the power cords, it may be easier to
disconnect the cords from the AC outlets at the wall. If you have
redundant power supplies installed, be sure to disconnect both
power cords.
6. Access the interior of the library as described in Access the Interior
from the Side on page 387 or Access the Interior from the Front on
page 389.
Caution
Do not power-down the library or remove the front panel before capturing all
available traces (see Capturing Traces on page 355). Trace data generated by the
library or the component may be lost when you perform a reset, making
diagnosing problems difficult.
WARNING
Risk of electrical shock, and hazardous moving parts. Unless a procedure specifies
otherwise, turn off power to the library and disconnect power cords before
removing library panels or accessing the inside of the library.
