Chapter 4 Testing and Configuring the TimeHub
Testing the NTP Cards
5. Repeat steps 1 – 10 of the procedure in Verifying the NTP Server Function, on
page 191 to verify that Port A is functional.
If the NTP Server card or the connection to the NTP Server card is not working,
a message appears that says SymmTime cannot connect to the server.
Troubleshoot the connection first, then the NTP Server card.
6. Activate Port B by issuing the following commands:
ED-EQPT:::Sa-OUTb:CTAG:::NTPPAIR=ACTB;
ED-EQPT::Sa-OUTb:CTAG:::NTPPAIR=APPLYCFG;
where a and b are described in step 1.
7. Click Sync Now in the SymmTime application. The new time and any offset
from the NTP Server card appears. This verifies that Port B of the NTP Server
card is still working with the same IP address as Port A.
If the NTP Server card or the connection to the NTP Server card is not working,
a message appears that says SymmTime cannot connect to the server.
Troubleshoot the connection first, then the NTP Server card.
Click Sync Now a few more times and verify the response.The switch may
delay the response.
8. Remove the cable from the Port A SFP and repeat step 7 to verify that to ensure
that Port A is not responding and Port B is still responding.
9. Reconnect the cable to the Port A SFP.
10. Activate Port A by issuing the following commands:
ED-EQPT:::Sa-OUTb:CTAG:::NTPPAIR=ACTA;
ED-EQPT::Sa-OUTb:CTAG:::NTPPAIR=APPLYCFG;
where a and b are described in step 1.
11. Remove the cable from the Port B SFP and repeat step 7 to verify that to ensure
that Port B is not responding and Port A is still responding.
12. Reconnect the cable to the Port B SFP.
Verifying the Redundancy Function
This test verifies that the NTP Server card is functioning and sending NTP packets
while switching to a redundant card. This procedure requires that you install another
NTP Server card into the adjacent slot. Both NTP server cards must be in the same
group.
