ThetractioncircuitonGroundsmaster5900and5910machinesisaclosedloop
systemthatincludesthepiston(traction)pumpandfour(4)wheelmotors.Ifa
componentinthetractioncircuitshouldfail,debrisandcontaminationfromthe
failedcomponentwillcirculatethroughoutthetractioncircuit.Thiscontamination
candamageothercomponentsinthecircuitsoitmustberemovedtoprevent
additionalcomponentfailure.
Therecommendedmethodofremovingtractioncircuitcontaminationwould
betotemporarilyinstalltheTorohighowhydrauliclter(seeSpecialTools
(page2–15))intothetractioncircuit.Thisltershouldbeusedwhenconnecting
hydraulictestgaugesinordertotesttractioncircuitcomponentsorafter
replacingafailedtractioncircuitcomponent(e.g.traction(piston)pumporwheel
motor).Thelterwillensurethatcontaminatesareremovedfromtheclosedloop
andthus,donotcauseadditionalcomponentdamage.
IMPORTANT
Topreventdamagetothehighowhydrauliclterduringuseona
Groundsmaster5900or5910,keepenginespeedbelow2200RPM.
Higherenginespeedsmayallowexcessivehydraulicowtothelter.
OncetheTorohighowhydrauliclterkithasbeenplacedinthecircuit,raise
andsupportthemachinewithallwheelsofftheground(seeJackingInstructions
(page1–6)).Then,operatethetractioncircuittoallowoilowthroughoutthe
circuit.Thelterwillremovecontaminationfromthetractioncircuitduring
operation.BecausetheT orohighowlterisbidirectional,thetractioncircuit
canbeoperatedinboththeforwardandreversedirection.Theltershouldbe
removedfromthemachineaftercontaminationhasbeenremovedfromthe
tractioncircuit.SeeFilteringClosed−LoopTractionCircuit(page5–81)for
additionalinformationonusingtheT orohighowhydrauliclter.
ThealternativetousingtheT orohighowhydrauliclterkitafteratractioncircuit
componentfailurewouldbetodisassemble,drainandthoroughlycleanall
components,hydraulictubesandhydraulichosesinthetractioncircuit.Ifany
debrisremainsinthetractioncircuitandthemachineisoperated,thedebriscan
causeadditionalcircuitcomponentfailure.
