Therearwheelsteeringspindlesmusttsnuglyintherearaxle.Excessive
movementofthespindleintheaxlemightindicatethatthesteeringspindle
bushingsarewornandshouldbereplaced.
1.Removerearaxlefrommachine(seeRearAxle(page7–10)).
2.Removethetierodassembly(seeTieRodDisassemblyandAssembly
(page7–14)).
3.Removethesteeringcylinderballjointatthesteeringspindle(seeSteering
Cylinders(page5–139)).
4.Ifnecessary,removetheten(10)capscrewssecuringtherearwheelmotor
tothesteeringspindleandremovetherearwheelmotor.
5.Removetheangeheadscrew,spindlecapandretainingringthatsecure
thesteeringspindleintotheaxle.Removethespindlefromtheaxle.Locate
andretrievethrustwasherfromsteeringspindleshaft.
6.Removebothspindlebushingsfromtheaxle.T akecaretonotdamagethe
boreoftheaxlespindletube.Cleantheinsideoftheaxletubetoremove
anydirtorforeignmaterial.
7.Applygreasetotheinsideandoutsideofthenewbushings.Pressthe
bushingsintothetopandbottomoftheaxle.Pressbushingsintoaxleuntil
bushingangecontactsaxle.
8.Thoroughlycleanthesteeringspindleshaft.Inspectthespindleforwearand
replaceifwornordamaged.
9.Installthrustwasherontothespindleshaftandslidetheshaftupthroughthe
axle.Holdthespindleshaftassemblyinplaceandinstalltheretainingring
intothegrooveinthespindleshaft.
10.Installthespindlecapandangeheadscrew.
11.Installthesteeringcylinderballjointatthesteeringspindle(seeSteering
Cylinders(page5–139)).
