capscrewsfrom91to112N·m(67to83ft−lb).
14.Installrearaxletomachine(seeRearAxle(page7–10)).
15.Lubricatethesteeringspindlesthroughthegreasettingsontherearaxle.
16.Checkrearwheeltoe−inandadjustifnecessary(seemachineOperator’s
Manual).
17.Operatemachineandcheckhydraulicconnectionsatsteeringcylindersand
wheelmotorsforleaks.
18.Checktomakesurethatnocontactismadebetweenanymachine
components(includinghydraulichoses)astherearwheelsaremovedfrom
steeringlocktosteeringlock.Correctanyinterferenceasnecessary.
AxlePivotBushingReplacement
Therearaxlemustbeheldinplacesnuglybytheaxlepivotshaft.Excessive
twistinginthemachineframeorside−to−sidemovementoftheaxle,whichis
oftencharacterizedbyerraticsteering,mightindicatewornaxlepivotbushings.
Tocorrecttheproblem,replacetherearaxlepivotbushings(Figure298).
1.Removerearaxlefrommachine(seeRearAxle(page7–10)).
2.Removebothpivotbushingsfromtheaxle.Takecaretonotdamagethe
boreoftheaxlepivottube.Cleantheinsideofthepivottubetoremove
anydirtorforeignmaterial.
3.Applygreasetotheinsideandoutsideofthenewbushings.Pressthe
bushingsintothefrontandbackoftheaxle.Pressbushingsintoaxleuntil
bushingangecontactsaxle.
4.Thoroughlycleanthesteeringspindleshaft.Inspectthespindleforwearand
replaceifwornordamaged.
5.Installrearaxletomachine(seeRearAxle(page7–10)).
6.Lubricatetheaxlepivotthroughthegreasettingontherearaxle.
